The story

Rockstar's official premise is short: Jason and Lucia carry out an easy score, it goes wrong, and they are drawn into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida that forces them to rely on each other¹. No mission names, chapters or endings have been published¹.

Previews of a hands-off demo describe an optional romance between the two, a relationship status you can raise or damage, and story choices with both immediate and delayed consequences. That detail comes from press reporting rather than from Rockstar directly⁴⁵.

Playing it

• The wanted system runs to six stars, and a crime has to be witnessed or detected before it is reported³⁴
• There is no full first-person mode at launch; first person is limited to aiming certain weapons⁵
• Side activities shown include basketball, pool, fishing, hunting, scuba diving, kayaking, base jumping, racing and mini golf⁴⁵

The honest unknowns

Rockstar has not published a map, a mission list, an ending, a cast list, a radio station lineup, a weather feature list or any technical specification. Anything you read on those subjects is either press reporting of an interview, community interpretation, or downstream of the 2022 leak¹².

How to check a GTA 6 claim in ten seconds

Ask where it came from. There are only four legitimate origins for a GTA VI fact right now: Rockstar's own site, one of its three official videos, a Rockstar or Take-Two statement, or a named interview with a developer¹²³. Anything else is interpretation, and a large share of it is downstream of the 2022 development leak¹.

The second test is specificity. Rockstar has published no numbers about the map, no mission list and no feature checklist, so a claim carrying a precise figure that cannot be traced to an interview is almost always invented¹.

Where the reliable detail actually comes from

Most of the mechanical detail circulating since late August comes from one week in August 2026: Rockstar's Extended Look on 27 August, and the hands-off press demonstrations run at Rockstar North around the same time³⁴⁵. Those previews are good reporting, but they are still descriptions of a demo nobody played, so we cite them as reporting rather than confirmation⁴⁵.

Behind the preview coverage

• The Extended Look and a separate hands-off press demonstration both happened around the same week in August 2026, with outlets including IGN, The New York Times and Kinda Funny reported among those who attended the demo⁷
• Nobody outside Rockstar has played the game; the press session was watched and narrated by developers, not controller-in-hand⁷

Everything attributed to the press demonstration around it, including every number in the list above, is reporting of a hands-off session, one level removed from Rockstar's own words even when the outlets involved are reputable and the developer quoted by name⁷. Keeping that distinction visible is the whole point of the citation system this site uses, and it is why almost every mechanical claim on this site outside the story basics carries a press or community source rather than an official one.

GTA 6 against GTA 5, in one place
