GTA 6 police cars: the VCPD cruisers seen in Trailer 2
Trailer 2 shows at least two distinct police cruiser bodies in Vice City. What breakdowns identified, what the in-game names are, and what is unknown
Trailer 2 contains a police bust with several marked cars on screen at once, and it is the clearest look at GTA 6 law enforcement so far. The Drive identified at least two distinct cruiser bodies in that sequence, one Ford Taurus Police Interceptor shape and one Crown Victoria shape, noting how much of a light show the scene puts on13.
Where it appears, scene by scene
Trailer 2's bust remains the clearest static look at the fleet, but the August 27, 2026 Extended Look added a second, more dynamic one. Engadget's breakdown of the roughly 26-minute showcase describes a six-star wanted sequence in which marked cruisers and a helicopter chase Jason and Lucia after a job goes loud, ending with the pair torching the stolen car and switching to a van11. That is the first time Rockstar has shown its patrol cars actually working a pursuit on camera, rather than sitting parked around an arrest, and Jalopnik's own pass through the same footage separately flagged the everyday cop car as a Dodge Charger shape rather than the Ford Taurus lookalike from Trailer 2811.
Different breakdowns attach different in-game names to the same cars. Autoevolution labels one as a VCPD vehicle based on the Taurus interceptor and another as a Vapid police cruiser in the Stanier LE mould, while Game Rant lists both a Vapid Police Cruiser based on the Taurus and a Bravado cruiser based on the Buffalo among the emergency vehicles identified so far24. Rockstar has not published any police vehicle names, so all of these are community labels4.
The real vehicle behind it
The Trailer 2 duo lines up with two real Ford-based interceptors. The Drive's read of the newer body as a Taurus Police Interceptor and the older one as a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor matches how American departments actually operated through the 2010s, running down the last Panther-platform Crown Victorias alongside their Taurus-based replacements3. The Extended Look complicates that picture: Jalopnik describes the everyday patrol car in that footage as Charger-shaped, and CarBuzz's rundown of current law-enforcement fleets confirms the Dodge Charger Pursuit and the Ford Police Interceptor Utility, not the discontinued Taurus, are the vehicles modern American agencies are actually still buying89. If that reading holds, GTA 6 may end up modelling three real interceptor generations rather than two, spanning old Crown Vic holdouts to current Charger-based patrol cars.
The interesting part is that both an older Crown Victoria shape and a newer Taurus shape appear together3. That mirrors real American fleets during the changeover years, where departments ran both cars side by side, and it gives GTA 6 a way to signal budget and jurisdiction through vehicle age alone3. Vapid has supplied the series' police cars since GTA IV, so a Vapid badge on the Crown Victoria clone is the expected outcome24.
Brand history in the GTA series
Vapid has owned the series' police badge since GTA IV, where the Stanier name covered the Taxi, Police Cruiser and NOOSE Cruiser bodies before the Stanier became a civilian sedan in GTA V10. GTA V and GTA Online then split the badge further: a modernised Police Cruiser and Unmarked Cruiser based on the 1998 to 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, a Sheriff Cruiser for county jurisdictions, and later the visually identical Stanier LE Cruiser added with the Chop Shop update10. GTABase's own GTA 6 pages carry that lineage forward under two separate listings, a Taurus-based Police Cruiser Interceptor and a Crown Victoria-based Police Cruiser Stanier LE, both still under the Vapid badge56.
What we expect in GTA 6
None of this locks in vehicle-specific stats, but the Extended Look does put real weight behind the idea that police work is a bigger system this time. Rockstar has not detailed the wanted system in writing, and the Extended Look appears to answer part of that anyway: Engadget's coverage shows a six-star wanted level on screen, the historic series maximum, with both ground cruisers and a helicopter involved in the chase, plus a sequence where a stolen car gets abandoned and burned once it becomes a liability11. That points toward pursuits that escalate through recognisable stages rather than a flat difficulty slider, and toward stolen cars being trackable enough that torching one is a deliberate move, though Rockstar has not explained the mechanic behind either observation11.
Trailer 2 alone said nothing about how the wanted system works in GTA 6, which agencies exist in Leonida, or how pursuit AI behaves1. A trailer showing an arrest confirms that police exist and that at least two cruiser bodies are modelled, and nothing more13.
Community theories
Two identification debates run through the community coverage. The first is naming: autoevolution and Game Rant do not agree on whether the Taurus-shaped car is a Vapid Police Cruiser or a separate Bravado-badged unit, and GTABase's own database hedges by giving the two bodies parenthetical suffixes, Interceptor and Stanier LE, that read like placeholders rather than confirmed in-fiction names2456. The second is jurisdiction: GTA BOOM's wiki entry separates a City of Vice VCPD from a county-level Vice-Dale Police Department with its own Buffalo STX, Maverick helicopter and Bison pickup, which would make the badge on a given cruiser a clue about where in Leonida a scene is set rather than cosmetic variation7. Both readings are plausible extrapolations from screenshots and trailer frames, not confirmed Rockstar terminology.
What we do not know
- The in-game names of any GTA 6 police vehicle4
- How many distinct cruisers ship, and whether unmarked cars exist4
- Which agencies operate in Leonida beyond the Vice City police1
- Whether the wanted system still uses stars: unclear from Trailer 2 alone1, though Extended Look coverage appears to confirm a six-star system11
- Whether the Dodge Charger-style car seen in the Extended Look is a new addition or replaces the Taurus body from Trailer 2811
- Which jurisdiction, VCPD or VDPD, any given cruiser livery in the trailers actually belongs to7
Frequently asked questions
What police cars are in GTA 6?
Trailer 2 shows at least two cruiser bodies, identified by breakdowns as a Ford Taurus Police Interceptor shape and a Crown Victoria shape. The in-game names are unconfirmed34.
Has Rockstar confirmed the GTA 6 wanted system?
No. The trailers show police pursuits and an armoured response vehicle, but Rockstar has not described how wanted levels work1.
Did the GTA 6 Extended Look show more of the wanted system?
Yes. Coverage of the August 27, 2026 Extended Look describes a six-star wanted level with cruisers and a helicopter chasing the player, the first on-screen look at an escalated pursuit11.
Is there more than one police agency in GTA 6?
Community wiki tracking lists both a City of Vice VCPD and a county-level Vice-Dale Police Department (VDPD) with a separate fleet, though Rockstar has not confirmed either name7.
