GTA 6 Trailer 2 breakdown: every scene, location and character

Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 landed without warning on the morning of May 6, 2025, four days after Rockstar had pushed the game out of 2025. At 2 minutes 47 seconds it is nearly twice the length of Trailer 1, and it is the first material to name both protagonists, show the supporting cast and put a hard release date on screen.¹³⁴

What Rockstar said about the footage

Rockstar's own video description states that the trailer was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 and is made up of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.³ Take-Two's press release repeats that all footage came from a PlayStation 5 and adds that the game would be wishlistable on the PlayStation and Microsoft stores.¹ The trailer went out alongside a full relaunch of the Grand Theft Auto VI section of rockstargames.com, which added character and location pages for the first time.⁴⁷

Take-Two's release also placed the trailer against the size of the franchise behind it, noting Rockstar had sold more than 440 million Grand Theft Auto units worldwide by that point, up from the 190 million Grand Theft Auto V units and 81 million Red Dead Redemption 2 units cited at the Trailer 1 reveal a year and a half earlier.¹⁸

The structure: a day with Jason, then Lucia

Part one: Jason's day (0:00-1:02)

The first minute is a single connected sequence. Jason Duval is introduced at his stilt house in Key Lento, in the Leonida Keys, where his landlord Brian Heder leans on him about money. He drives north, robs a smoke shop on the way, works out on Vice Beach, buys beer, cuts through the Haitian neighbourhood of La Perle and ends up at the Leonida Penitentiary reception desk. At 1:02 the gate opens and Lucia Caminos walks out. Only then does the title card appear and the montage start.⁴

Part two: the couple's life (1:10-1:58)

From 1:10 the trailer cross-cuts three threads: the couple's domestic life, their jobs, and the heat coming down on them. You see a bank robbery at Sinfrontera National Bank, a night loading run at Brian's marina, Lucia on community service in a work vest, and later a police briefing and a raid.⁴

Part three: the set pieces (1:58-2:47)

The last stretch is pure action: a grenade launcher fired from a moving bus, a mid-air fight inside a jet's cargo hold, a helicopter chase through the Grassrivers, and a container jump from a moving motorcycle, before the pair drive across the causeways into the sunset as the logo and date card land.⁴

New names and faces

• Jason Duval, whose surname was revealed here for the first time.⁴
• Lucia Caminos, whose surname was also new.⁴
• Brian Heder, the Keys landlord and boat yard operator who opens the trailer.⁴
• Cal Hampton, seen drinking with the pair at The Rusty Anchor.⁴
• Dre'Quan Priest and Bae-Luxe, tied to the Vice City music scene.⁴

Locations and vehicles this trailer put on the map

• Locations: Key Lento in the Leonida Keys, Interstate 97, Vice Beach, La Perle, the Leonida Penitentiary, Sinfrontera National Bank, Brian's boat works and marina, The Rusty Anchor, the NINE1NINE nightclub, and the artificial islands and causeways.⁴
• Vehicles confirmed on screen: Jason's car parked beneath his stilt house, an attack helicopter Jason pilots with a side gunner, a seaplane loaded at night, a city bus Lucia fires a grenade launcher from, a cargo jet, a motorcycle, a shipping-container freight trailer, and a speedboat chased by a police helicopter.⁴

Music and the date card

Five tracks play across the trailer, in order: Thunder Island by Jay Ferguson, Child Support by Zenglen, Everybody Have Fun Tonight by Wang Chung, Talkin' To Myself Again by Tammy Wynette, and Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters, which carries the whole back half.⁴ The logo and the release date land at 2:40, reading May 26, 2026.⁴ That date was later replaced: on November 6, 2025 Rockstar moved the launch to November 19, 2026, so the on-screen date in this trailer is now out of date.⁶

What changed between the two trailers

Trailer 1 sold the state. Trailer 2 sells the pair. Where the first trailer used phone clips and news feeds to introduce Leonida as a place, the second stays with two people and tracks them across it, and it names things: the Keys town of Key Lento, the Sinfrontera National Bank, the NINE1NINE club, The Rusty Anchor, Brian's boat works. It also shows more of the map's range in a single cut, from the wetlands to the causeways to the inland neighbourhoods.⁴

The two trailers also differ in what Rockstar was willing to say about the footage itself. Trailer 1 carried no capture claim at all; Trailer 2 explicitly said PlayStation 5, equal parts gameplay and cutscenes, a level of technical disclosure Rockstar had never previously attached to marketing for this game.³

How big the launch was

Rockstar told The Hollywood Reporter the trailer passed 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours, against 93 million for Trailer 1 in the same window, and called it the biggest video launch of all time. Spotify reported streams of Hot Together up 182,000 percent.⁵ The GTA Wiki, citing the same report, puts the YouTube upload alone at 84 million views on day one.⁴ By September 2026 that upload had passed 181 million views.³

Guinness had certified Trailer 1's YouTube record independently two days after release; Trailer 2's headline figure, by contrast, is Rockstar's own reported number relayed through a trade outlet, covering every platform the trailer appeared on rather than a single audited count.⁹

Trailer 2 vs the Extended Look

Trailer 2 was the last piece of Grand Theft Auto VI marketing built as a short, edited cut rather than a sustained playthrough. The Extended Look, at roughly 26 to 27 minutes and premiered on Netflix in August 2026 before going to YouTube, replaced Trailer 2's cross-cut montage style with long, continuous gameplay sequences, an on-screen wanted-level HUD, and a slow-motion combat ability visible in real time, none of which Trailer 2 showed.¹⁰¹¹

Both pieces of footage share the PlayStation 5 capture claim, but only the Extended Look was framed by Rockstar as a gameplay demonstration first and a piece of marketing second; Trailer 2 kept a conventional trailer structure, cutting on music beats rather than showing uninterrupted play.³¹⁰

Production facts Rockstar published

Beyond the PlayStation 5 capture claim, Rockstar's own text around Trailer 2 is sparse: the YouTube description credits the PS5 capture and the equal-parts gameplay-and-cutscenes split, and lists the five songs in the order they play, but names no voice cast, no writers and no other crew.³ Take-Two's press release adds the storefront wishlisting detail and the franchise sales figure, but otherwise defers to the trailer and the relaunched website for anything about the game itself.¹⁷

That relaunched site is itself a production fact worth noting: it was built to launch simultaneously with the trailer rather than afterward, since character and location pages referencing Jason, Lucia and places shown in Trailer 2 were live within the same news cycle as the video.⁴⁷

What Trailer 2 does not show

It also never confirms whether players can freely switch between Jason and Lucia outside of scripted story beats, never shows a full map, and gives no indication of mission structure or how the two characters' criminal activities connect mechanically rather than just narratively. Those questions were left entirely to the Extended Look and the press previews that followed it fifteen months later.⁴
