GTA 6 Trailer 2 released with a new official site and a May 2026 date

Four days after the delay, Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 with no teaser and no warning. Take-Two's press release confirmed a May 26, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, said all trailer footage was captured on PlayStation 5, and noted the game would soon be wishlistable on the PlayStation and Microsoft stores.¹

Rockstar's own YouTube description went further than the press release: the 2 minute 47 second trailer was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 and is made up of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.³ The Newswire post carried the same synopsis that now sits on the official site, describing Jason and Lucia getting pulled into a criminal conspiracy across the state of Leonida after an easy score goes wrong.²⁵

The franchise Trailer 2 was selling into

Take-Two's press release framed the new footage against the size of the series behind it, noting that Rockstar had sold more than 440 million Grand Theft Auto units worldwide by that point, which made Trailer 2 the first real look at what the best-selling entertainment franchise's next entry would actually play like, as opposed to the mostly cinematic first trailer.¹

The site relaunch

The trailer landed alongside a full rebuild of the Grand Theft Auto VI section of rockstargames.com, which added character and location pages for the first time and turned the page into the game's actual hub rather than a holding image.⁴⁵

What was newly confirmed

• Full names for both leads: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.⁴
• Supporting characters including Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Dre'Quan Priest and Bae-Luxe.⁴

The decision to drop a second trailer only four days after publicly delaying the game was itself a statement: rather than let the delay be the last word for months, Rockstar followed it almost immediately with the biggest piece of new material since the reveal, which is generally read as a studio trying to keep goodwill from curdling into frustration during a longer wait.¹²

What changed from Trailer 1

Trailer 1 sold the state of Leonida through phone clips and news-style footage without naming its leads by surname. Trailer 2 reversed that approach entirely: it stayed with two named people, Jason and Lucia, and it did so using footage Rockstar was willing to call gameplay for the first time. That shift, from mood piece to character-and-mechanics reveal, is why Trailer 2 runs nearly twice as long as Trailer 1 despite covering a narrower slice of the map.³⁴

The relaunched official site reinforced the same shift. Where the pre-Trailer 2 version of rockstargames.com/VI had only ever hosted marketing copy and the two trailers, the rebuilt site added dedicated pages that let players read about Jason, Lucia and specific locations independently of any video, effectively turning the promotional site into a reference source in its own right for the first time.⁵

How Take-Two framed the moment commercially

Beyond the creative reveal, the press release did real investor-facing work: confirming a PS5 capture, naming a specific date and pointing to storefront wishlisting all gave retailers and platform holders a concrete hook to build their own marketing around, only four days after the same company had told the market the game would not arrive in 2025 after all.¹
