GTA 6 Trailer 2 views: 475 million in 24 hours across all platforms

Rockstar says GTA 6 Trailer 2 drew over 475 million views on day one, and Spotify reported an 182,000 percent jump for Hot Together

Rockstar told The Hollywood Reporter that Trailer 2 passed 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours and called it the biggest video launch of all time. The same report put Trailer 1 at 93 million in its first day, when it was a YouTube exclusive.1

For comparison the report cited the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer at 365 million first-day views and The Fantastic Four: First Steps at more than 200 million, which is the frame Rockstar was reaching for: not the biggest game trailer, the biggest video, full stop, against Hollywood's own tentpole marketing.1

The soundtrack effect

Spotify reported that streams of Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters, the track that carries the second half of the trailer, rose by 182,000 percent after the trailer went live.1 Four other songs play earlier in the cut, by Jay Ferguson, Zenglen, Wang Chung and Tammy Wynette.2

A jump of that size on a single song is unusual even by the standards of trailer-driven music revivals, and it points to how much of Trailer 2's cultural reach came from viewers outside the core gaming audience discovering the clip through music or entertainment feeds rather than gaming press.1

The YouTube number on its own

The all-platforms figure is not directly comparable to Trailer 1's Guinness-verified YouTube record. Community tracking of the same Hollywood Reporter reporting puts the YouTube upload alone at roughly 84 million views on day one.2 By September 2026 that upload had passed 181 million total views.3

Why Rockstar released the two figures so differently

Trailer 1's record came from an independent third party, Guinness, auditing a single platform. Trailer 2's headline figure came from Rockstar itself, reported through a trade outlet, and covers every platform the trailer appeared on at once. Neither approach is wrong, but they are not the same measurement, and the size of the jump between 90 million and 475 million reflects that difference in method as much as it reflects growth in actual audience size.1

Treat the 475 million figure as Rockstar's own reported number relayed through The Hollywood Reporter, not as an independently audited record in the way Trailer 1's Guinness figures were.1

What this signalled about the delay

Rockstar released Trailer 2 four days after publicly moving Grand Theft Auto VI out of 2025, so the record-setting response also functioned as an answer to a question the delay had raised: whether pushing the date would cost the game any of its cultural momentum. A trailer that immediately outperformed the previous record by a factor of five suggested it had not.1

The comparison Rockstar chose for the press, Deadpool and Wolverine and The Fantastic Four rather than other game trailers, also reflects how the studio now talks about its own marketing: not against other publishers' launches, but against the biggest entertainment releases of any kind. That framing has stuck through the game's subsequent marketing beats, including the Extended Look premiering on Netflix rather than a gaming platform in 2026.1

It also raised the bar Rockstar would have to clear with any future material. Once a trailer has been publicly described as the biggest video launch of all time, every subsequent reveal, the cover art, the pre-order announcement, the Extended Look, gets measured against that same benchmark by press and fans alike, whether or not Rockstar itself repeats the comparison.1
