How many GTA 6 trailers are there? All three, plus the Extended Look

Three. Rockstar has released three trailers for Grand Theft Auto VI: Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and the Launch Trailer. On top of those sits a separate 26-minute gameplay showcase called An Extended Look, which is not a trailer. Rockstar's Launch Trailer page lists all four videos with their dates and run times, which is the cleanest way to settle the question.⁹

Trailer 1 and Trailer 2

Trailer 1: December 4, 2023

Rockstar announced it a month in advance. On November 8, 2023, co-founder Sam Houser published a short note marking the studio's 25th anniversary and promising the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto in early December.⁶

Rockstar's video page dates the trailer December 4, 2023, and the Newswire post announcing it is dated December 5. It came with the setting attached: the state of Leonida, home to Vice City and beyond, pitched as the biggest step the series had taken, with a 2025 window on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.¹⁹

Trailer 2: May 6, 2025

Trailer 2 arrived four days after the first delay was announced and gave the story its shape: Jason and Lucia, an easy score that goes wrong, and a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. Take-Two's accompanying release confirmed all footage was captured on PlayStation 5. It runs 2 minutes 47 seconds, nearly double the first trailer.²⁹

An Extended Look and the Launch Trailer

An Extended Look: August 27, 2026

This is not a trailer and Rockstar does not number it. It premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on August 27, 2026, then arrived on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Netflix's listing gave it 26 minutes and Rockstar's own page shows 26:48, and Rockstar confirmed it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.³⁷⁹

The Launch Trailer: October 15, 2026

The third trailer landed on October 15, 2026, 35 days before release. Rockstar calls it the Launch Trailer, not Trailer 3, although Game Rant and others use that name. It runs about a minute and a half and premieres Flower in a Hurricane by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, with Justice confirmed as the composers of the game's score.⁸⁹¹⁰

On the story side it adds Jason explaining that he left the army on bad terms, and it ends with the couple jumping from a balcony hand in hand. Rockstar used the release to restate November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our Launch Trailer breakdown covers it scene by scene.⁸¹⁰

Records and the rest of the media library

The records Trailer 1 set

Guinness World Records logged Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 at 90,421,491 views in its first 24 hours, making it the most viewed video game trailer in a day, and the most viewed non-music video on YouTube in 24 hours at the time.⁵

That second category is the broader one: it placed the trailer alongside film trailers and major cultural moments rather than only other game announcements. Rockstar has not published comparable audited figures for the Launch Trailer, so there is no like-for-like record to report for it yet.⁵⁸

What else Rockstar has published

Beyond the videos, the official media page hosted nine short clips when we checked it in September 2026, including the cover art animation and character clips for Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, plus 99 screenshots, 51 Ultimate Edition images, 12 Vintage Vice City Pack images and 22 artwork and wallpaper files.⁴

Why the count confuses people

Four things get miscounted. Before October 2026 the Extended Look was often called Trailer 3, which Rockstar never did. The actual third trailer carries no number either, since Rockstar named it the Launch Trailer. The short clips on the media page, such as the cover art animation and the character clips, are sometimes counted as trailers. And re-uploads with new titles circulate as if they were separate Rockstar releases. Rockstar's own video page lists three trailers and the Extended Look, and that is the authority.⁴⁹¹⁰

Common misconceptions, debunked

• "The Extended Look is Trailer 3." Rockstar does not number it, and the third trailer is the October 15 Launch Trailer.⁹
• "The Launch Trailer is a gameplay reveal." It is a short cinematic cut of about 90 seconds; the long-form gameplay is in the Extended Look.⁹¹⁰
• "There are dozens of official videos." The short clips on the media page are character and cover-art pieces, not separate trailers, by Rockstar's own categorization.⁴
• "Trailer 1's record has since been broken by GTA 6 itself." Not established; Rockstar has not published audited cumulative view figures for its videos.⁵

What each release told us

• Trailer 1 established the setting, the state of Leonida and Vice City, and a 2025 window on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S¹
• Trailer 2 established the premise: Jason and Lucia, a score gone wrong and a conspiracy across the state²

The gaps tell their own story. Game Rant counts 519 days between Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 and another 478 before the gameplay showcase. The Launch Trailer then followed the Extended Look after only seven weeks, the shortest gap between two Grand Theft Auto VI videos so far.⁹¹⁰

Practical checklist for catching up before launch

• Watch in release order for context: Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the Extended Look, then the Launch Trailer⁹
• Use Rockstar's official YouTube channel or the game's own video page rather than a re-upload for the cleanest versions⁸⁹
• If you only have two minutes, the Launch Trailer is the most recent summary of the story; if you have half an hour, the Extended Look shows how the game plays⁹¹⁰
• Do not count fan edits, reaction videos or leaked 2022 footage as part of the official lineup

Put the four releases side by side and each has a distinct job. Trailer 1 sold a place, Trailer 2 sold two people and a premise, the Extended Look showed how the game moves and plays, and the Launch Trailer brought it back to the couple with an original song from the game's own composers.¹²³⁸
