Vice City in GTA 6: every confirmed neighborhood and its real Miami inspiration
Rockstar's modern Vice City explained: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the VC Port, Tisha-Wocka and the real Miami underneath it.
Vice City is the urban core of the state of Leonida and the place most of GTA 6's marketing keeps returning to. Rockstar's own framing is that the series is "a long way from the '80s" but that Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America, with the glamour, hustle and greed of the whole country compressed into one skyline1. It is the same city the series last visited in 2002, rebuilt for the present day rather than for the neon decade, and outlets covering the reveal describe it as Rockstar's take on Miami proper23.
What the official site says
The Only in Leonida section of rockstargames.com/VI gives Vice City the heading "Everything in Excess" and names four areas outright. Ocean Beach gets the pastel art deco hotels and the bright white sand. Little Cuba gets the busy panaderias. The Tisha-Wocka flea market is where the bootleg brands live. And the VC Port is billed as the cruise ship capital of the world1. That short paragraph is the closest thing to an official district list we have, and it deliberately sells the city as a set of separate economies rather than one uniform downtown13.
Pre-order and edition copy on the same site adds more Vice City places by name, including the Ocean View Hotel, Sara's Unisex Salon, Rideout Customs, the Electric Fang tattoo parlour and the Stock 305 clothing store, several of which Rockstar ties to a district called Stockyard1. PC Gamer notes that these shop reveals arrived alongside pre-orders and are the main reason we know as many Vice City business names as we do2.
What the trailers show
Trailer 1 made clear that Vice City is only one piece of a much bigger state. Reporters combing the 90 second reveal logged road signs and news chyrons for Kelly County, Catalan Boulevard, the VCI airport, Vice Beaches and Port VC, plus what look like district names Stockyard and Downtown, and spotted shots that read as updated versions of the 2002 game's Starfish Island and Ocean Beach4. Trailer 2 filled in the street level: an elevated commuter train modelled on Miami's MetroRail, a gun shop signposted Phil's Ammu-Nation, cats in the alleys, and a run of road signs for Ambrosia, Downtown, VCI Airport and Southside as Jason drives5.
The 26 minute Extended Look that premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 stayed mostly inside Vice City and the water around it, showing nightclubs, piers, jet skis and a densely populated ocean full of manatees, dolphins and stingrays67.
The real Miami underneath
Miami New Times matched roughly 20 real South Florida buildings to shots in the reveal footage, including Loews Miami Beach Hotel, the Brickell high-rise with the circular cut-out, the Venetian Causeway, Wynwood's graffiti walls, and two Ocean Drive hotels that were renamed in-game: the Hotel Breakwater becomes Hotel Boardwalk and the Hotel Victor becomes Hotel Dixon8. That level of one-to-one copying is the clearest evidence that Vice City is Miami with the serial numbers filed off rather than a generic tropical city82.
What is still unknown
Rockstar has never published a GTA 6 map, and has not given a size for Vice City or for Leonida in square miles or square kilometres2. A detailed map said to come from an internal development build spread online in August 2026 and Take-Two responded with copyright takedowns; that material is unverified, may be from an older build, and should not be treated as a fact about the finished game910.
What Trailer 1 revealed about the city
GamesRadar's frame-by-frame pass on the 91 second reveal found more than road signs. It logged three groups active in and around the city: the Thrillbilly Mud Club, a dirt-track mud racing crew; High Rollerz Lifestyle, a street racing outfit built around high-end performance cars; and an unnamed pack of cyclists and ATV riders, alongside a news bulletin about a separate dirt bike gang "terrorizing dirt city"4. The same breakdown spotted a viral-video social platform running through the trailer, tagged #have.a.vice.day, with clips of a twerking dancer on a moving car, a gator pulled live from a pool, and a tribute post reading "RIP Rudi - C U in heaven, cuz"4. A separate clip staged like police body-cam footage raised the possibility of a first-person view, something GTA 5 added in 2014, though Rockstar has not confirmed it applies here4.
One social-media clip in the trailer is set in a neighbourhood called Hamlet, where an older woman brandishes two hammers at whoever is filming her, captioned "Neighborhood watch don't play around in Hamlet"4. Hamlet has not resurfaced since, but it is one of the few Vice City place names to come from a gag rather than a road sign4.
What Trailer 2 and the Extended Look added
PC Gamer read Trailer 2 as trading some of GTA 5's cartoonish excess for a more grounded register: low-level hustles and favours rather than constant spectacle5. The trailer opens with Jason shouting that he is "fixing some leaks," read as a dig at the 2022 leak that dumped early GTA 6 footage online before Rockstar controlled the story5. The outlet also spotted Jason weightlifting and a fight club scene with Lucia landing a kick in a fenced arena, suggestive of physique-linked systems like San Andreas built around CJ5. A cat climbing out of the bins behind Brian Heder became one of the most shared background details from the reveal5. Rockstar's own screenshots add a panther stalking deer, and Trailer 2 shows a character in a green "Manatees" football jersey, GTA's parody of the Miami Dolphins5.
GamesRadar's pass over the 26 minute Extended Look added smaller details rather than new locations: a T-shirt reading "Righteous Slaughter: Hood Ops" for the fictional studio Misfire Games, a callback to a series glimpsed in GTA 5; Jason and Lucia cruising in an old convertible Sentinel, a nod to an original Vice City favourite; a Fleeca Bank sticker on Jason's fridge; and 1980s tracks including Phil Collins' "Against All Odds," echoing Vice City Stories' soundtrack8. The same breakdown noted Lucia visibly sweating inside a crowded nightclub, evidence that heat affects characters in real time, and an ocean thick with manatees, dolphins and stingrays the pair swim, dive and jet-ski through8.
How it compares to Vice City (2002)
The clearest throughline to 2002 is not a location but a person: Phil's Ammu-Nation, the gun store signposted in Trailer 2, reads to PC Gamer as a likely nod to Phil Cassidy, the gun runner from GTA 3 and Vice City, which would make him only the second character confirmed to jump from the 3D-era trilogy after Lazlo5. PC Gamer flagged reasons for doubt, including the timeframe and the character apparently having both arms, and treated it as Rockstar playing with its own history rather than a literal return5. Trailer 1 also contained shots read as updated versions of the 2002 game's Ocean Beach and Starfish Island, and the returning names Washington Beach and the Ocean View Hotel round out a city that is visibly the same place, decades later, rather than a reboot42.
Community theories
Community mapping of the city is unusually organised. PC Gamer points to a GTAForums thread, run by the same group that mapped GTA 5, that had climbed to roughly 11,000 posts by August 2026, cross-referencing trailer shots against real Miami-area imagery2. That effort is how most of Vice City's unofficial building matches got identified before Rockstar said more26. It is community work, not confirmation2.
