Port Gellhorn in GTA 6: Leonida's forgotten coast, the Starlet Motel and the Delights

Port Gellhorn is the bleakest of the six regions Rockstar has named. The official write-up calls it Leonida's forgotten coast: cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls that will not bring the tourists back, with a new economy fuelled by malt liquor, painkillers and truck stop energy drinks. Rockstar's advice for visiting is to jump on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet¹.

Where Vice City is sold through named shops and the Keys through sunshine, Port Gellhorn is sold almost entirely through decline and darkness. That makes it one of the most distinctive parts of the GTA 6 map, and one of the least documented.

What Rockstar has shown

The region's heading is "Live Hard", and the screenshot captions are among the most specific Rockstar has published for any region¹:

• two men in a room full of grow lights, one holding a shovel and one a baseball bat
• a motel's vacancy sign burning at night
• a woman leaning into a car window to hand a package to someone in the back seat
• a club car park glowing with cabaret signage while somebody pushes a shopping trolley past
• a bonfire party sprawling across a beach, with a couple leaning on a pickup truck

PC Gamer reads the copy the same way: drugs, alcohol and energy drinks are the town's main moneymakers³. Almost everything in the set is shot after dark, which gives Port Gellhorn an identity of its own next to the daytime beach imagery used for Vice City and the Keys².

The Starlet Motel and the Delights

Two venues have names. GamesRadar's location guide lists the Starlet Motel and the Delights cabaret as the places that survive among the deserted strip malls and abandoned attractions, in a region where the drug trade has taken hold². Neither name appears in Rockstar's own text, which talks about cheap motels in the plural, so both come from press reading of the published screenshots rather than from Rockstar directly¹².

The motel is the right symbol for the whole region. A vacancy sign that still burns at night says the building is still operating, unlike the strip malls around it: infrastructure built for tourists who stopped coming, now serving somebody else¹. Paired with the grow room and the car-window handoff in the same gallery, it suggests that motel rooms and other low-visibility spaces are part of how Rockstar frames the local drug economy¹. Whether rooms can be entered or used as a safehouse has not been said³.

Gameplay hints

Rockstar's travel tip reads like a real pointer. Dirt bikes and ATVs doing tricks recur across Leonida's rougher regions, and a region of scattered motels, clubs and beaches suits fast movement between points rather than a dense walkable centre¹. The grow lights and the package handoff point toward a production or dealing loop, and the bonfire and cabaret show nightlife and small hustles alongside it, but Rockstar has not described a single mechanic or mission here yet¹³.

GTA has drawn hollowed-out towns before, from Blueberry in San Andreas to Sandy Shores in GTA 5. Port Gellhorn applies the same idea to a specifically Floridian failure: not a desert town that never had much, but a resort that had tourists and lost them¹².

The real Florida behind it

Rockstar has not named a real town. The strongest signal is that the volunteer GTA 6 mapping community, the same group that mapped GTA 5, ran a sweep of Google Street View across Panama City while trying to place Port Gellhorn, as PC Gamer reported³. Panama City sits on the Gulf coast of the Florida panhandle, and the wider idea of a faded Gulf coast resort strip is the safe part of the identification. The specific town is an educated community guess³.

The name has a neater explanation than any town. Community researchers trace it to Martha Gellhorn, the American war correspondent who reported from the other Panama City, in Panama, on the civilian toll of the 1989 US invasion: a Panama City stand-in named after a journalist whose best-known Panama City assignment gives the joke its hinge⁵⁶. Rockstar has not commented, and we cover the theory on its own page.

How it fits the other regions

Port Gellhorn's slogan follows the same pattern as Ambrosia's "Keeping Leonida Sweet" and Grassrivers' "Welcome to the Wetlands": a cheerful line on top of a much darker reality¹. Trailer 1's road signs confirmed a Kelly County in Leonida, which fans associate with this part of the map, though Rockstar has not tied the two together⁴. Most of what is known about the region comes from still images rather than trailer footage¹².

What is still unknown

We do not know how big Port Gellhorn is, whether it is a city with districts or a strip of coast, which missions take place there, or how it connects to Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. No official map exists³.
