Mount Kalaga National Park in GTA 6: hunting, backwoods and the northern border

Leonida's northern wilderness: hunting, fishing, kayaking, off-road trails and the hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living out there.

Mount Kalaga National Park is the wilderness at the top of the map, and the only one of Leonida's six regions Rockstar describes primarily in terms of what you can do there rather than who runs it. The official copy calls it room to breathe on the state's northern fringes: a national landmark against the state's northern border offering prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails, with hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living in the lush surrounding backwoods, far from the prying eyes of the government1.

What the official site says

The region's heading is "Wild, Wild Country"1. Rockstar's screenshot captions for Mount Kalaga are the most nature-documentary of the set: a news helicopter over a tree-covered ridge, four people riding dirt bikes through mud with an ATV jumping behind them, two people with rifles walking through the woods, a winding road cut between two steep green hills, a cougar stalking deer at a stream, and someone in a life vest kayaking toward a bridge1.

What there is to do

GamesRadar's location guide reads the same material and lists hunting deer and mountain lions, fishing, kayaking and off-road trails, plus the backwoods communities hiding from government interference2. PC Gamer is more careful, pointing out that Rockstar saying the park "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails" is scene-setting rather than a mechanics confirmation, and comparing it to Senora National Park in GTA 5, where most of that game's wildlife was concentrated3.

One concrete hook comes from Rockstar's Ultimate Edition copy, which describes a '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy as a Mud Club monster built for the backwoods of Mount Kalaga, stored at the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay with a weapon locker and a place to fence stolen goods4. That is the clearest official signal that off-roading here is a supported activity and not just set dressing43.

The real-world inspiration

Rockstar places the park at Leonida's northern border, which in Florida terms means the Georgia line1. Community trackers describe the park's landscape as drawing on Georgia and north Florida, with the canyon section resembling Providence Canyon State Park in south-west Georgia; that comparison comes from community analysis rather than from Rockstar5.

One of Rockstar's own screenshots shows someone in a life vest kayaking toward a bridge inside the park, which is a rare piece of evidence that Mount Kalaga has its own road infrastructure crossing its waterways rather than being pure trackless wilderness1. Paired with the winding road cut between two steep green hills in a separate screenshot, it suggests at least a basic network of paved or graded routes runs through the park alongside its off-road trails1.

What is still unknown

Rockstar has not confirmed hunting or fishing as playable systems, has not said whether anything lies beyond the northern border, and has not published a map showing the park's size3. Vehicle licence plates in Trailer 2 and in official screenshots reference a second state called Gloriana, which fuelled speculation about territory north of Mount Kalaga; community analysis after the August 2026 leak concluded Gloriana is referenced on plates only, but none of this is confirmed either way5.

Businesses, signs and brands spotted

Mount Kalaga is one of the few regions where Rockstar's own material names an attached business by function rather than by storefront: the Paradise Garage in nearby Watson Bay, tied to the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and offering a weapon locker and a place to fence stolen goods4. Beyond that, no shop, bar or brand has been placed inside the park itself. The region is sold entirely through activity and atmosphere, hunting, fishing, off-roading, kayaking, rather than through named locations the way Vice City or Stockyard are1.

How it compares to earlier GTA wilderness regions

Every open-world GTA since San Andreas has paired its city with a rural, forested counterweight: Whetstone and the countryside of Los Santos, Mount Chiliad and Blaine County in GTA 5. PC Gamer's comparison to Senora National Park, where GTA 5 concentrated the bulk of its animal population, suggests Mount Kalaga is filling the same structural role for GTA 6: a low-population, high-nature zone that exists partly to hold the wildlife the rest of the map cannot3. What is different this time is how far north Rockstar has placed it, hard against the state line, which makes it a genuine edge of the map rather than a central mountain the way Chiliad was in Los Santos13.

Community theories

The most persistent Mount Kalaga theory concerns Gloriana, a second state name that has turned up on vehicle licence plates in Trailer 2 and in official screenshots. Community analysis following the August 2026 leaks concluded that Gloriana is referenced only on plates, without a matching physical landmass appearing in the leaked map material, and connected the name to a place called Gloriana Key, itself read as a stand-in for the real Virginia Key near Miami5. That would make Gloriana a Virginia-flavoured license plate joke rather than a second playable state, but Rockstar has confirmed neither the plate's meaning nor the wider theory, so it stays firmly in the community bucket5.

What would confirm more

A dedicated Mount Kalaga trailer segment, an official screenshot caption naming a town or trailhead inside the park, or a gameplay demo showing hunting or fishing as an interactive system would all move this page's confidence up. Until then, the park's size, its northern boundary and whatever Rockstar means by "weirder discoveries" elsewhere in Leonida's marketing remain open questions rather than settled facts13.

Not yet confirmed: whether hunting and fishing are full mechanics, and whether the map extends past Leonida's northern border.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hunt in Mount Kalaga National Park?

Rockstar says the park offers prime hunting and has shown people carrying rifles through the woods and a cougar stalking deer, but hunting has not been confirmed as a playable system13.

Where is Mount Kalaga on the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar places it against Leonida's northern border. There is no official map, so its exact position is unknown1.

Is Mount Kalaga based on a real place?

Rockstar has not named one. Community analysis points to north Florida and south Georgia, including Providence Canyon State Park for the canyon section5.

What is Gloriana in GTA 6?

A state name that appears on some vehicle licence plates. Community analysis reads it as a nod to Virginia via a place called Gloriana Key, but Rockstar has not explained it, and no separate playable Gloriana landmass has been confirmed5.

Is the Paradise Garage inside Mount Kalaga National Park?

No. Rockstar places it in nearby Watson Bay, though the off-road buggy stored there is explicitly built for the Mount Kalaga backwoods4.

Does Mount Kalaga have its own town?

Unconfirmed. Rockstar's copy focuses on activities and wildlife rather than any named settlement inside the park1.
