GTA 6 platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, confirmed again in 2026

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. No PC, no PS4, no Xbox One, no Switch 2 version exists

The platform list has never changed. Grand Theft Auto VI was announced in December 2023 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that is still the whole list.4 Take-Two's forward lineup table in its August 7, 2026 earnings release repeats it: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, November 19, 2026.1

What is confirmed

  • PlayStation 5, including the digital and disc models.13
  • Xbox Series X|S.13
  • A physical release containing a download code, on sale November 12, 2026.3
  • Nothing else. No PC, no PlayStation 4, no Xbox One, no Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced.1

Rockstar's official site carries a Plays Best On PlayStation 5 line alongside the two platform logos, which points to a PlayStation marketing arrangement rather than any exclusivity: the Xbox version launches the same day.2

Last-gen is not happening

Grand Theft Auto V shipped across three console generations, which is why the question keeps coming up. Grand Theft Auto VI has been a current-generation-only title in every official statement since the reveal, including every Take-Two lineup table filed with the SEC.14

Why the platform list has stayed this stable

Almost three years passed between the December 2023 announcement and September 2026 without a single platform being added or dropped from Take-Two's own filings, even across two full release delays. That consistency is unusual for a project this large and this long in public development, and it is one of the few parts of the Grand Theft Auto VI story that has not required a correction or an update on this site since the reveal.14

What each platform actually gets

The pre-order release draws a distinction worth repeating: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both get the full game on the same November 19, 2026 date, with the same standard and Ultimate edition options and the same pre-order bonuses. Neither console version has been described as a lesser port of the other in any Take-Two or Rockstar statement; the Plays Best On PlayStation 5 line on the official site is a marketing placement, not a claim about missing content on Xbox.23

A physical release exists for both platforms too, going on sale the same November 12, 2026 date as digital pre-loading, and it ships with a download code inside the box rather than the full game on disc, which is now standard practice for large open-world releases across this console generation.3

Why the platform question keeps recurring

Grand Theft Auto V's decade-plus lifespan across three console generations trained a large part of the audience to expect a Grand Theft Auto game to eventually reach almost everything, so questions about a Switch 2 or a last-gen version of Grand Theft Auto VI resurface regularly despite never having any basis in an official statement. This page exists specifically to give a single, current answer to that question rather than leaving it to scattered forum threads and outdated articles.14

Every pre-order and marketing surface Rockstar and Take-Two control, the official site, the Newswire, the storefront listings named in the June 2026 pre-order release, and every SEC filing since the reveal, names exactly the same two platforms. That level of consistency across legal disclosures, marketing copy and retail listings alike is itself part of why this page treats the platform list as settled rather than an open question.123

If you see a PS4, Xbox One or Switch 2 listing for this game, it is not from Rockstar or Take-Two. Neither has ever named those platforms.
