GTA 6 Duke Arms carbine: the M4-style rifle Jason is aiming

One of the official screenshots shows Jason shouldering an assault rifle, and a close crop of it reveals a Duke Arms Company logo engraved on the receiver above the magazine. That makes it the first GTA 6 rifle with a readable maker's mark, even though the model designation is not visible anywhere on the gun.¹

Where it appears

Besides Jason's screenshot, GamesRadar spotted a second version in a video hosted on the official GTA 6 media site: Raul Bautista aiming what the site calls a Duke Arms Company special ops carbine, in the middle of what looks like an armed standoff on a street.¹ PC Gamer treats the two as very likely the same base weapon wearing different attachments rather than two separate guns, which fits how Rockstar has handled rifle variants before.²

What it is based on

Both breakdowns read the rifle as an AR-15 or M4 pattern carbine: flat-top receiver, magazine well forward of the pistol grip, collapsible stock and a rail system carrying optics and grips.¹² GTABase's GTA 6 database splits the same silhouette into more than one entry, listing an AR-15 carbine and a Colt M4A1-derived 556 assault rifle side by side, which is a good illustration of how uncertain the naming still is.³

Duke Arms Company has history

Duke Arms is not a new invention for GTA 6. PC Gamer points out that the same manufacturer appears in Red Dead Redemption, so Rockstar is carrying an in-universe gunmaker forward from the old west into modern Leonida.² That kind of branded hardware is a change of approach: in GTA 5, most weapons were simply labelled by class, such as pistol or carbine rifle, while several GTA 6 guns carry a brand and a model number instead.²

How rifles worked in GTA 5

For context on what to expect, GTA 5 organises its arsenal into classes including assault rifles, and lets you take firearms to Ammu-Nation to fit attachments, performance upgrades, liveries and tints.⁵ The Extended Look shows rifles being fired from vehicles and picked up from downed enemies during a firefight, so the carbine is clearly a mid-game staple rather than a scripted prop.⁴

The AR-15/M4 platform in real life

The carbine's flat-top receiver, forward magazine well and collapsible stock place it squarely in the AR-15 and M4 family, the most common assault rifle platform in the United States. The military M4 was developed by Colt's Manufacturing Company, with FN Herstal and Remington Arms also producing variants under contract, and it was formally adopted by the US armed forces in 1994 chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO.⁶ More than 500,000 M4s had been built by 2021, it became the US Army's standard infantry rifle in 2010 and the Marine Corps' in 2016, and it has since been adopted by more than 60 countries, a spread that has made the silhouette one of the most reused rifle shapes in games and film.⁶ None of that is a claim about the in-game Duke Arms carbine's own specifications, which Rockstar has not published; it explains why the shape read as familiar the moment the screenshot surfaced.⁶

Attachments and upgrades: the GTA 5 precedent

If the Duke Arms carbine follows how Rockstar has handled this weapon class before, GTA 5 is the best guide available. Ammu-Nation sells every rifle-class weapon with a slate of attachments, liveries and tints, and select rifles can be taken further at a Weapon Workshop or Agency Armory into an upgraded Mk II variant with extra customization and special ammunition types.⁵ None of that is confirmed for GTA 6, but it is the system the carbine would be slotting into if Rockstar keeps the structure GTA Online has used for over a decade.⁵

What the Extended Look suggests for rifles like this one

The Extended Look did not single out the Duke Arms carbine by name, but it showed how rifles behave in general, and the carbine is the platform most GTA 6 footage keeps returning to. Auto-aim is reportedly gone in favor of a fully manual aiming system with optional aim-assist, and players can now swap between two carried weapons with one button instead of opening the wheel every time, which Push Square illustrates with Lucia moving between a rifle and a pistol at a shooting range.⁷⁸ Engadget's follow-up breakdown of the same footage describes the same slow-motion targeting mode marking lethal and non-lethal zones on enemies, a mechanic that would apply to any rifle Jason or Lucia is holding, the carbine included.⁹

What would actually confirm the details

Each open question has a plausible way to close. A strategy guide, or the in-game weapon wheel once footage shows it in full, would settle the model name the way it already settled the Girardi ES9 and Klose K17 for the pistols.¹ A side-by-side comparison of the standard and special-ops screenshots against a future gameplay trailer would show whether the differences are cosmetic attachments or a second weapon entirely.¹² Pricing and stats will not exist in any credible source until Rockstar publishes an official guide or the game ships, since the series has never pre-released Ammu-Nation pricing ahead of launch.²
