GTA 6 Mustang .357: the Duke Arms revolver from the Ambrosia bikers

The Mustang .357 is GTA 6's second identified revolver, and unlike the Ultimate Edition Morgan it turned up the hard way: in a screenshot. GamesRadar found it in an official image of a pair of bikers from the Ambrosia region, one of whom is holding the revolver, and identified the maker from the Duke Arms Company logo and engravings on the side of the frame.¹

A Python by another name

PC Gamer describes the Mustang as a high-power revolver based on the Colt Python, the vented-rib .357 Magnum that has been a film and game staple for decades.² The .357 in the in-game name matches that cartridge, which is a rare case of a GTA 6 weapon name carrying information rather than just a brand.² The full model designation beyond Mustang .357 has not been shown.¹

Duke Arms again

This is the third weapon carrying Duke Arms branding, alongside the M4-style carbine Jason aims in one screenshot and the sniper rifle resting in a poacher's lap in the Grassrivers images.¹ PC Gamer notes Duke Arms also appears in Red Dead Redemption, so Rockstar is running one in-universe manufacturer across two of its biggest series.² That gives the Mustang a bit of implied pedigree, though it says nothing about how it performs.²

Where it might sit in the arsenal

PC Gamer raises the obvious question of whether the Mustang beats the personalised Morgan revolvers that Ultimate Edition buyers get, and answers it honestly: nobody knows.² Both are large-frame magnum revolvers, and in Grand Theft Auto that has usually meant a small magazine, a slow reload and enough damage per hit to end a fight. Firearms in GTA 5 could be taken to Ammu-Nation for attachments, performance upgrades, liveries and tints, and there is no reason to expect revolvers to be excluded in GTA 6, but that has not been confirmed.⁴³

The real Colt Python behind the Mustang .357

Colt introduced the Python in 1955 as its top-of-the-line revolver, chambered in .357 Magnum and built with a distinctive full-length underlug and ventilated rib barrel that came out of gunsmith Al DeJohn's work strengthening the .38 Special Officer's Model for magnum pressure.⁵ It became one of the most recognisable revolvers in film and television, including a turn in Dirty Harry and a long run on The Walking Dead, and Colt actually discontinued the original run in 2005 before bringing a reinforced second-generation Python back in January 2020 largely because of that renewed on-screen demand.⁵ GTA Wiki's read on the in-game name backs up that lineage while adding a wrinkle: the Mustang borrows its Magnum designation from the Python it is modeled on, but the Mustang part of the name is thought to nod to a separate, much smaller Colt product, the Colt Mustang pocket pistol, rather than to the revolver itself.⁷

Duke Arms crosses over from Red Dead

Duke Arms Company is not a name Rockstar made up for GTA VI. GTA Wiki describes it as sharing its name and logo with the manufacturer from the Red Dead series, and calls it the first Red Dead company to get a canonical appearance in the HD Universe through ordinary gameplay rather than a limited-time promotional crossover.⁶ In both universes it is generally read as based on Colt, which lines up with the Python-derived Mustang .357.⁶ GTA Wiki also lists three other confirmed Duke Arms weapons for GTA VI beyond the revolver: a rifle referred to as the 556, modeled on the Colt LE6920, and a special ops carbine and an assault sniper rifle that are both said to be modeled on the M4A1 Block II design.⁶ That is a wider in-universe catalogue than a single Ambrosia screenshot suggests, and it means the Mustang is one piece of a small but genuine brand crossover between Rockstar's two biggest series rather than an isolated reference.⁶

What the screenshot actually shows

GTA Wiki's notes on the sighting add a little more texture than a simple gun ID: in the Ambrosia screenshot, a woman on the back of a motorcycle is holding the revolver braced across her partner's chest, with the Duke Arms Company logo visible near the cylinder and Mustang .357 engraved along the barrel.⁷ The site lists it as a 6-round revolver, consistent with other magnum-class revolvers in the series, though it flags that plenty about the gun remains unconfirmed and cautions against treating early specification guesses as settled.⁷

Revolvers before the Mustang

The series' two earlier named revolvers set a pattern the Mustang could follow or break. The Heavy Revolver, sold at Ammu-Nation for $5,900, is a single-action design based on the ASG Dan Wesson airsoft line with Taurus Raging Bull touches, and it cannot accept any attachments at all.⁸ The Doomsday Heist's Double-Action Revolver is modeled on the Colt M1892, doubles as a free Red Dead Redemption 2 tie-in unlocked through a Treasure Hunt, and deals 81 damage at 140 rounds per minute out to 120 metres with a 6-round cylinder.⁹ Both are simple, largely unmoddable sidearms. Whether the Mustang, arriving with actual brand engraving and a named manufacturer, gets a deeper attachment tree than either of them is exactly the kind of question only an official weapon wheel or strategy guide can answer.⁸⁹
