GTA 6 Capo pistol: the gun from the Trailer 1 liquor store robbery

The Capo pistol has the distinction of being the first Grand Theft Auto VI weapon most people ever saw. Trailer 1, released in December 2023, closes on a liquor store robbery, and Jason is holding the Capo as the scene plays out.¹²³

Two sightings, one gun

GamesRadar links that trailer appearance to a later official screenshot showing Raul Bautista holding what it describes as an unidentified Capo pistol, naming Capo as an in-universe Grand Theft Auto weapon manufacturer.² PC Gamer records the same pair of sightings and adds a real-world read: to its eye the pistol looks a lot like a Colt M1911, the classic single-stack service pistol with the slab-sided slide and beavertail grip safety.³

A brand without a model number

Capo sits in an awkward middle ground among GTA 6's weapons. Unlike the Girardi ES9 and the Klose K17, which Rockstar has named outright, and unlike the Duke Arms guns whose logos are legible in screenshots, the Capo pistol has a brand attached but no model designation anyone has been able to read.²³ PC Gamer says as much: the full name of the pistol is not known yet.³ Community databases list a heavy pistol on an M1911 pattern among GTA 6's handguns, which may or may not be the same weapon.⁴

Why the M1911 read matters

Grand Theft Auto has leaned on 1911-pattern pistols for its harder-hitting handguns for years, usually under names like heavy pistol, so the Capo lining up with that silhouette suggests it sits above the everyday sidearms in stopping power.³⁴ That is an inference from shape and series precedent, not a confirmed stat, and Rockstar has published nothing about how the Capo performs.³⁴

Where it appears, scene by scene

Trailer 1 builds to the robbery slowly. Earlier in the same trailer, security-camera footage shows an alligator wandering into a convenience store, a moment fans immediately read as a companion piece to the ending: two different kinds of trouble walking through a Leonida store's front door.⁵ The trailer then cuts to its final shot, where Jason and Lucia approach a liquor store with bandanas pulled up over their faces and pistols already drawn, and the screen fades to black as they push through the doors.¹⁵ GamingBible reads the framing as a deliberate Bonnie and Clyde setup, with robbery pitched as a recurring activity for the couple rather than a one-off crime.⁵ Nothing in the trailer shows the robbery play out, so what happens once the doors close, and whether the Capo pistol is fired at all, was never shown.¹

The real weapon behind it

The M1911 that press breakdowns keep comparing the Capo to is one of the most copied handgun shapes in fiction for a reason. John Browning designed it for Colt, the US Army formally adopted it on March 29, 1911, and it went on to serve as the standard-issue US military sidearm for 74 years, from 1911 until the Beretta M9 replaced it in 1985.⁶ It fires the .45 ACP round from single-stack magazines, saw combat in both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam, and its slab-sided slide and exposed hammer have barely changed across a century of production, which is exactly why the silhouette is so recognisable in a screenshot.⁶

History of this class in the GTA series

Grand Theft Auto's early games kept handguns simple: GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV all gave you a generic Pistol and left it at that. A dedicated 1911-pattern heavy pistol did not show up until GTA V and GTA Online added the Heavy Pistol with the Business Update, describing it in-game as modelled on an Entreprise Wide Body 1911 and pitching it as one of the hardest-hitting handguns in the game.⁷ If the Capo pistol is meant to fill that same role in GTA 6, it would be continuing a fairly recent tradition rather than a series-long one.⁷

What GTA 5 and Online did with it

The Heavy Pistol cost $3,750 at Ammu-Nation in GTA V and GTA Online, with medal discounts bringing it down to $3,375, $3,187 or $2,812 depending on performance, and in the Enhanced version of Story Mode it only unlocked for purchase after the mission Dead Man Walking; GTA Online sold it with no rank requirement at all.⁷ Owners could fit an extended 36-round clip, a flashlight, a suppressor, an etched wood grip finish and a run of paint tints, all bought separately at Ammu-Nation.⁷ None of that is a promise about the Capo pistol specifically, but it is the clearest picture of how this series has historically treated a 1911-style handgun once it actually reaches a store shelf.⁷

What we expect in GTA 6

Expectation, not confirmation: given how GTA 6 has leaned into named, branded hardware, it would be consistent for the Capo pistol to surface eventually as a purchasable Ammu-Nation weapon with its own model number, sitting above the Girardi ES9 and Klose K17 in raw stopping power the way the Heavy Pistol sat above the standard Pistol in GTA V.³⁷ That is a pattern-based guess drawn from series precedent, and Rockstar could just as easily keep the Capo as a story-only weapon tied to Jason and Raul.²³
