GTA 6 Easter eggs: the references Rockstar has actually planted

There is a difference between a detail that genuinely appears in official material and a detail someone has decided means something. Most Grand Theft Auto VI Easter egg lists blur that line. This page keeps them apart¹².

Confirmed callbacks

The clearest is a weapon. Rockstar's Ultimate Edition listing describes a pair of Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers with classic Vice City styling sourced from the Vercetti Estate, including palm-tree-etched grips¹. The Vercetti Estate is Tommy Vercetti's mansion from the 2002 game, so Rockstar is placing that history inside GTA VI's world in its own words³.

The second is a building. Rockstar's pre-order imagery shows Jason and Lucia outside the Ocean View Hotel, which was the player's first safehouse in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City¹³.

The third is the brand furniture. Rockstar's own edition text names Vapid, Grotti, Dinka, Pegassi, Shitzu and Hawk & Little, all long-running fictional Grand Theft Auto marques, and introduces new ones such as the Girardi and Klose pistol makers¹. Preview coverage adds Ammu-Nation weapon lockers and Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell drive-thrus⁶. These are continuity rather than jokes, but they are the most solid links to the wider series.

Named places that reward attention

Rockstar's Vice City description drops several names worth remembering: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port². Edition listings add Lake Leonida, Washington Beach, Gambit Bay, Watson Bay, Stockyard and Shore Drive, plus a state nickname, the Goodtime State, and a local television character called Macca the Gator who has his own merchandise line¹.

Where the lists go wrong

A large share of published Easter eggs are readings of trailer frames: a background poster, a licence plate, a shop sign, matched to a real incident or an older game. Some are convincing. Community analysis of the Morgan revolvers, for instance, argues their numbering points at the release dates of two earlier Vice City games, which is a neat catch but a community reading rather than a Rockstar statement⁴.

Others are pure pattern-matching, particularly the claims that specific trailer moments recreate specific viral videos. The moments exist; the identifications are guesses⁵.

What comes next

The real Easter egg hunt cannot start until the game is out, because almost every classic Grand Theft Auto secret has been something you had to physically reach: a location, a room, a sound cue. Nothing in the three official videos can show you those¹⁵.

Three tiers of reference

It helps to sort them. Tier one is continuity furniture: brands and chains that appear across Grand Theft Auto games because they always do, which Rockstar's own material confirms without commentary¹. Tier two is deliberate nostalgia, like the Vercetti Estate weapons and the Ocean View Hotel, where Rockstar is clearly making a point¹³.

Tier three is everything else, and it is where almost all the volume sits: background details in trailer frames that viewers have connected to older games, real events or other Rockstar titles. Some are real finds. Most are coincidence dressed up as discovery⁵.

How to judge one yourself

Ask whether the detail is legible without being told what it is, whether it appears in official material rather than a compressed re-upload, and whether the claimed meaning requires a chain of assumptions. A poster that clearly reads as a callback passes. A blurry shape someone says is a returning character does not⁵.

Beyond the Morgan revolvers, the Ultimate Edition text confirms a run of smaller nods worth listing plainly, because each is a genuinely official detail rather than an interpretation. The '95 Grotti Cheetah is described in Rockstar's own words as "Grotti's signature mid '90s sports car and ode to Shore Drive," a real named Vice City street the region page also mentions⁷. Jason's safehouse vehicles include an Army-fatigue-tinged Dinka Enduro motorcycle and a Crest Kayak, and the edition also lists a Shitzu Squalo, continuing a fictional manufacturer that has appeared across multiple earlier Grand Theft Auto games⁷. The personalised weapon variants extend beyond the Morgan revolvers to Jason's Girardi ES9 and Lucia's Klose K17 pistols, each with its own engraved edition⁷.

Why these count as tier two, not tier three

Using the three-tier system this page already sets out, every item in the list above is tier two: deliberate, official nostalgia rather than continuity furniture or a fan reading of a trailer frame. None of them require interpretation. Rockstar wrote the copy, named the model years, and chose the street names itself. That is the standard the rest of this page holds every other claimed easter egg to, and it is why this section can sit here without a callout qualifying it⁷.

The in-world celebrity Rockstar built from scratch

Not every confirmed detail is a callback to an older game. The Ultimate Edition's "Goodtime Gear" capsule collection is described as "inspired by the Goodtime State's hit TV show character, Macca the Gator," a fictional celebrity invented specifically for Leonida rather than borrowed from any earlier Grand Theft Auto title⁷. That is worth separating from the Vice City nostalgia items above: it shows Rockstar building brand-new in-world lore with the same care it puts into franchise callbacks, which is a useful reminder that not everything worth tracking on this page is a reference to something older.

It also sets a marker for what to expect after launch. A TV mascot popular enough to support real branded merchandise almost certainly appears somewhere in the game's fictional media, on a channel, a billboard or a T-shirt in a shop, and spotting where he actually turns up will be one of the first genuine, verifiable easter eggs players can confirm for themselves rather than read about secondhand⁷.
