GTA 6 cover art revealed ahead of pre-orders opening in June 2026

Rockstar published a short video titled Grand Theft Auto VI: Official Cover Art Reveal to its own YouTube channel on June 18, 2026.¹ It was the first piece of new Grand Theft Auto VI marketing since the second trailer over a year earlier, arriving after 408 days of near-total public silence on the game, and it doubled as the trigger for the pre-order campaign.²

Alongside the reveal, Rockstar confirmed that pre-orders would open on June 25, 2026.²³ A week later the Newswire post went live with the full commercial detail, including the Ultimate Edition and the pre-order bonus pack.³

What the cover shows

The artwork puts Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval at the centre of the series' long-running grid layout, the collage-style poster design Rockstar has used since Grand Theft Auto III. Kotaku's coverage of the reveal pointed out that Rockstar has quietly placed a helicopter in the top-left corner of nearly every Grand Theft Auto cover since that game in 2001, a detail unbroken for 25 years apart from one exception on Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and the Grand Theft Auto VI cover keeps the same helicopter in the same corner.⁴

Why the order matters

Rockstar has kept a deliberate rhythm on this game: a piece of art or footage first, commercial detail second, never both at once. The cover art drop is the point where Grand Theft Auto VI moved from a thing being previewed to a thing being sold, and it came with none of the platform, price or edition detail that followed a week later.¹³

The gap that preceded it is part of the story too. Trailer 2 landed in May 2025, and Rockstar published nothing comparable about the game itself for more than a year afterward, aside from the routine earnings-call references to its release date. The cover reveal broke that silence deliberately, timed a week ahead of pre-orders rather than on the same day, giving fans a moment to react to the art on its own before any purchasing decision was in front of them.¹²

Why a two-decade-old design detail still matters

The helicopter placement is a small thing, but it is the kind of detail returning players actively look for on a new cover, and outlets like Kotaku built entire pieces around confirming Rockstar had kept it rather than around the cover's broader composition. For a marketing beat with almost no other new information attached, a confirmed continuity detail like that gave the community something concrete to discuss and share days before pre-orders opened.⁴

What the reveal did not include

Notably absent from the June 18 video were any of the numbers that would follow a week later: no price, no edition names, no confirmation of what would come bundled with a pre-order. Rockstar kept the cover reveal purely visual, which meant the initial wave of coverage and fan reaction was about the artwork and the characters shown on it rather than about value or purchasing decisions, a separation that would not have been possible if pricing had landed the same day.¹³

A short audio detail

Coverage of the reveal video also picked up on a brief snippet of music behind the artwork, described as carrying an electric-guitar, Vice-City-inspired sound distinct from anything used in either full trailer. Rockstar has not released that clip separately or confirmed it as part of the game's soundtrack, so it remains a detail noticed in the reveal video rather than a confirmed music credit.⁵
