GTA 6: An Extended Look, Rockstar's 26-minute gameplay reveal on Netflix

The biggest look at Grand Theft Auto VI so far did not debut on Rockstar's own channel. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET, then went up on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day.²

Rockstar describes the showcase as captured entirely from in-game footage on a PlayStation 5, presenting it as the biggest and most immersive evolution of the series yet.¹³ Coverage of the premiere puts the run time at around 26 to 27 minutes of footage, making it roughly ten times the length of Trailer 2.⁴⁶

A first-of-its-kind partnership

Netflix itself described the arrangement as a first of its kind, giving its subscribers exclusive access to new Grand Theft Auto VI material six hours before it appeared anywhere else. Coverage of the deal noted Netflix had passed 325 million subscribers by the end of 2025, which made it a platform capable of reaching an audience well beyond people who had already sought the footage out on gaming channels.⁷

Variety's reporting on the partnership framed it as unusual specifically because Rockstar did not need the extra reach on pure viewership terms: both previous trailers had already set video-viewership records without any outside platform's help, so the Netflix window was read as a deliberate positioning move, placing Grand Theft Auto VI alongside television and film premieres rather than only inside gaming media.⁷

Why the Netflix window matters

Staging the premiere on a streaming platform six hours ahead of YouTube is new for Rockstar and turned the reveal into a scheduled television event rather than a link drop. The official site now carries a permanent An Extended Look page and leads with a Now Playing banner.³⁵

What the footage actually shows

Press breakdowns of the showcase describe it opening with Jason and Lucia visiting a dealer in a run-down apartment complex, a sequence that turns into a shootout and an escape through a neighbouring apartment and out a window, before moving through convenience-store robberies, a car chase, and set-piece sequences including a fan-boat pursuit and a nightclub scene. Rockstar's own six-star wanted level HUD and a slow-motion combat ability both appear on screen during the footage.⁶

How it compares to the trailers that came before it

Trailer 1 ran 91 seconds and leaned on phone footage and news clips to introduce a place. Trailer 2 ran 2 minutes 47 seconds and introduced two named people. The Extended Look, at roughly 26 to 27 minutes, is a different category of reveal entirely: long enough to show sustained gameplay sequences, HUD elements like the wanted-level display, and connective tissue between set pieces rather than only a highlight reel.⁴⁶

That length is also why press coverage treated it less as a trailer than as a preview screening, the kind of hands-off session outlets are normally given privately rather than something released simultaneously to the public on a mainstream streaming platform.⁷
