GTA 6 easter egg: the Phil's Ammu-Nation advert in Trailer 2

Trailer 2 cuts to a television playing an advert for Ammu-Nation, the gun store chain that has been in Grand Theft Auto since the 3D era. The man fronting it has a mullet, a moustache and a delivery lifted wholesale from late-night American local advertising, and he calls the shop Phil's Ammu-Nation while claiming to stock more guns than the law allows¹²³.

Why the name matters

Phil Cassidy is one of the most durable minor characters in the series: a Vietnam-fixated arms dealer who appeared in Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and Vice City Stories, and who famously lost an arm to his own ordnance in the 2002 game³⁴. Naming an Ammu-Nation after a Phil, in Vice City, with that haircut, is not a coincidence anybody is arguing against²³.

The catch, and the theory

The man in the commercial has two arms and looks nowhere near old enough to be the Cassidy of 1986 in a game set in the present day⁴. Not confirmed: the character's identity, his relationship to Phil Cassidy, whether he appears outside the advert, and who voices him.
