GTABase lists an Airgator Airboat 09 as confirmed through official Rockstar screenshots of the Grassrivers, where the boats are shown being used for hunting and fishing, and community trackers also identify a second, unnamed airboat crossing the wetlands in Trailer 1¹².

Real-world inspiration

GTABase reads the Airboat 09 as a Diamondback hunting and fishing airboat, right down to the naming convention that real airboat builders use for hull lengths². The unnamed Trailer 1 boat is read separately as a Panther Airboats custom build, a different manufacturer with a different cage and seat layout².

The Diamondback read is not a loose guess. GTA Wiki's brand page for Airgator Airboats notes the fictional logo mirrors Diamondback Airboats' real shield-and-snake mark almost stroke for stroke, swapping in an alligator for Diamondback's western diamondback rattlesnake, right down to matching fonts⁵. The real Diamondback Airboats is a Cocoa, Florida builder that has been welding hunting and fishing rigs from marine-grade aluminum since 1989, exactly the niche Rockstar is depicting in the Grassrivers screenshots⁹.

Why a fan-driven boat exists at all

Airboats are the only practical way to move across shallow, weed-choked water, which is precisely what Rockstar's own material describes in Leonida's wetland region³⁴. A conventional propeller fouls in six inches of water and sawgrass; a fan on the deck does not. Community write-ups describe the airboat as the defining transport of the region, and it opens up terrain that neither a car nor a normal boat can reach³.

Airboats work because they sidestep the one thing every other watercraft needs: a submerged propeller. Rockstar's August 27, 2026 Extended Look presentation went further than either of those, showing an airboat carrying players through swamp channels as part of a sequence that also covered jet skis and kayaking. The presentation did not isolate the Airgator by name, but outlets covering the stream flagged the swamp airboat itself as a vehicle type the series has never shipped before¹⁰.

What we expect in GTA 6

Rockstar has talked about GTA 6's vehicle handling in general terms, citing input from professional racing drivers and describing heavier, less forgiving physics than GTA V produced, but none of that commentary has singled out airboats or any other watercraft¹⁰. Given how central hunting and fishing appear to be to the Grassrivers region based on the official screenshots, it would be a reasonable expectation that the airboat functions as ordinary rentable or stealable transport rather than a scripted, mission-only vehicle, though this remains an inference from the surrounding content rather than a confirmed detail²⁶.

Rockstar's confirmed Ultimate Edition mod shops give an adjacent data point. One of the two named garages, an off-road and paint specialist called One-Eyed Willie's on Lake Leonida, sits in exactly the kind of rural, water-adjacent setting an airboat owner would use, though Rockstar has not said the shop actually services boats and no customisation options for any watercraft have been described so far¹¹.
