Vapid Caracara in GTA 6: the Raptor-style pickup from the trailers

The Caracara is the aggressive, factory-lifted pickup that shows up early in Trailer 2, driven by the visitor who turns up at Jason's place near the start of the video¹³. It is instantly readable as a second-generation Ford F-150 Raptor: the wide track, the block-letter grille and the fender flares are all lifted from Ford's desert truck³.

Where it appears, scene by scene

The character behind the wheel in the Trailer 2 opening is Brian Heder, a Keys drug runner Rockstar's own official site describes as living off a boat yard he runs with his third wife Lori, and who lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns¹⁰. Trailer-breakdown channels match that official bio to the man arriving in his own Caracara at Jason and Lucia's place, which gives the truck a named owner in a way most background vehicles never get⁶¹⁰. It is not the only trailer sighting: Trailer 1 already put an orange, heavily lifted Caracara through its paces mud-crawling at the Thrillbilly Mud Club, well over a year before Trailer 2 tied the truck to Heder⁶. Neither the August 27, 2026 Extended Look nor the press coverage that followed it called out a Raptor-style Vapid pickup specifically, so its confirmed screen time is still limited to the two trailers rather than the newer footage⁹.

A Raptor by another name

Vapid is the series' Ford analogue, so a Raptor clone under that badge is the obvious move². The GTA Online version of the Caracara that GTABase catalogues was read as a Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6, the six-wheeled aftermarket conversion, which is a wilder starting point than the standard truck². The GTA 6 truck seen in Trailer 2 looks closer to a stock four-wheel Raptor, so the model appears to have been reworked rather than carried across untouched²³.

The real car behind it

The second-generation F-150 Raptor the design leans on arrived for the 2017 model year after Ford put the truck on a two-year hiatus and dropped the old SVT prefix entirely⁵. The bigger change was under the hood: Ford swapped the previous generation's V8 for a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 paired with a new 10-speed automatic, a switch that raised eyebrows at launch but ultimately made the truck quicker, and the more aluminum-intensive body cut over 500 pounds versus the outgoing SVT model⁵. That generation also added conveniences that had nothing to do with off-roading, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and six selectable drive modes, positioning the real Raptor as a daily-drivable performance truck rather than a stripped-out desert racer⁵. The in-game Caracara borrows the visual attitude of that truck without any of that being confirmed to carry over as an actual feature.

Series history

The Caracara arrived in GTA Online as an off-road pickup and was modifiable at the mobile workshops inside the Avenger and the Mobile Operations Center². That places it firmly in the late GTA Online era rather than the older GTA V launch roster, so its return is a recent-vehicle carry-over rather than a nostalgia pick².

What earlier GTA games did with this model

Community trackers date the Caracara's GTA Online debut to the July 2019 Diamond Casino & Resort update, and it has since spawned enough variants that Rockstar effectively lets players choose their level of excess: the base Caracara runs $1,775,000 from Warstock Cache & Carry, a tamer Caracara 4x4 sells for $875,000 through Southern San Andreas Super Autos, and an armored version has instead been handed out as a free reward for completing the Kortz Center heist rather than sold outright⁶⁸. That spread, from a six-figure workhorse to a nearly two-million-dollar showpiece, says more about how GTA Online prices excess than about anything confirmed for GTA 6, where no price for any vehicle has been published⁸.

Why a big pickup matters in Leonida

Trailer 2 spends a lot of its running time outside Vice City, in the Keys, the swamps and the small towns, and pickups dominate that footage in a way they never did in Los Santos¹⁴. The Drive noted the same shift, calling out the volume of trucks in the trailer alongside the sports cars⁴. A Raptor-style Vapid is the visual shorthand for that part of the state⁴.

What we expect in GTA 6

Because the GTA Online Caracara already supports heavy-duty suspension tuning and off-road-specific handling upgrades at mobile workshops, it is reasonable to expect the GTA 6 version to plug into whatever off-road customisation system Rockstar ships at launch, and the new theft mechanics Rockstar has described, where vehicle security scales with how expensive and modern the target is, suggest a truck like this could sit somewhere in the middle of that ladder rather than at either extreme²⁹. That is inference from the wider systems Rockstar has talked about, not a confirmed detail about this specific truck⁹.

Community theories

Brian Heder is officially named and described on Rockstar's own site, so the open question is narrower than it first looks: it is not whether he exists, but whether he is shown driving the Caracara himself or whether the truck simply belongs to his boat-yard operation, a distinction trailer-breakdown channels read from the scene rather than something Rockstar states outright¹⁰⁶. There is a smaller, related argument over the six-wheel Hennessey-style variant GTABase catalogued from the GTA Online version: some trackers expect a six-wheeled Caracara to return as a rare unlock the way it effectively is in Online today, others think GTA 6 will ship with only the standard four-wheel truck seen in the trailers and let later updates add the rest².
