Raymond in GTA 6: the drug lab contact from the Extended Look opening

Raymond runs the Vice City drug operation at the centre of GTA 6's opening mission. What the Extended Look showed and what is still unverified

Raymond is the man Jason and Lucia are sent to find in the first minutes of Grand Theft Auto VI's Extended Look, and therefore the first named character most people saw in actual gameplay. He has no official bio and does not appear on Rockstar's character page, so everything here comes from coverage of the showcase Rockstar released on August 27, 2026. That gives him an unusual status among the supporting cast: he is arguably the most-discussed character in the entire showcase, because his mission opens it, while remaining one of the least officially documented.12

What the Extended Look showed

Gulf News describes the opening as deliberately mundane crime: Jason and Lucia are running an errand for the Vice City fixer Boobie Ike, told to track down a man named Raymond inside a rundown apartment building. What they find is an operation in disarray. Raymond's crew tells them the boss has disappeared and that nothing is moving until he turns up. Before the pair can leave empty-handed, a phone call warns that a task force is on its way, and the officers who arrive open fire almost immediately.2

HotHardware frames the same sequence more bluntly: the pickup was the setup for a raid on the compound, and what follows is an extended escape through the building. Gulf News adds that the shootout runs through cramped hallways with pistols and shotguns and ends with an elevator escape, and notes a line from Lucia asking Jason whether she recognises one of the shooters, which implies the pair have history with that particular unit.32

The community account, and why it is flagged

A French community dossier of the showcase supplies a much fuller version: that Raymond runs a drug production lab for the Haitian street gang San4San, that the lab appears to supply Boobie Ike's club, that he is betrayed by a man called Ernesto who phones to warn him that friends in the police are coming, and that after the raid Raymond hides Jason and Lucia in an apartment belonging to one of his contacts. The same dossier names Mendez, a corrupt officer it says appeared in Trailer 2, and reports that hearing his voice is enough to make the protagonists run.4

That account conflicts with Gulf News on one basic point: whether Raymond is present at all during the mission or has already vanished when Jason and Lucia arrive. Rockstar has published nothing to settle it, so this page treats the community version as unverified detail rather than as fact.24

San4San

San4San is worth separating out, because the sources do not use the term the same way. GamesRadar, listing details viewers may have missed, describes Jason and Lucia meeting a character called San4San at the very start of the showcase, wearing a Righteous Slaughter: Hood Ops T-shirt that also turned up in the first trailer. Community sources instead describe San4San as a Haitian street gang operating in Vice City, with the person in the opening being one of its members. Rockstar has not defined the name, so both readings are on the table.54

Comparison with how past GTA games open

Rockstar has a habit of introducing a new game through a job too small to matter before the plot escalates. GTA V's actual second mission, after its bank-heist prologue, is Franklin and Lamar repossessing two cars for a used-car dealer, a job that exists mainly to teach the player the controls before Franklin's story gets dangerous, alongside basic mechanics like safehouses and police evasion. Raymond's pickup follows the same beat: a routine collection for Boobie Ike that Gulf News calls deliberately mundane crime, right up until the raid turns it into the showcase's first real combat set-piece. The difference is pacing, GTA 6 turns violent within the same mission rather than saving the escalation for later ones, which fits a marketing showcase built to demonstrate combat quickly rather than a full game that can afford a slower ramp-up.62

Relationships and rivalries

Raymond's confirmed relationships run through Boobie Ike, whose fixer status makes the pickup happen at all, and through Jason and Lucia, whose actions during the raid define the entire sequence. Everything past that, his tie to San4San, the informant Ernesto, the corrupt officer Mendez, comes from a single community dossier that mainstream outlets have not corroborated. Because so much of Raymond's supporting cast is unverified, this page keeps its confidence score below the eight officially profiled characters and treats every name beyond Boobie, Jason and Lucia as provisional. If Mendez really is the corrupt officer a community dossier links to Trailer 2, that would be the first confirmed overlap between a named Trailer 2 face and the Extended Look's opening mission, which is exactly the kind of detail this page will update once a second source corroborates it.24

What is still unknown

Rockstar has not confirmed Raymond's surname, his role, his gang affiliation, his voice actor, or whether he appears again after the opening. Ernesto and Mendez have been named only in community coverage. What is reasonably solid is the shape of the mission itself, reported by two separate outlets: a routine collection for Boobie Ike that turns out to be a trap, and an extended fighting retreat that serves as the showcase's introduction to GTA 6's combat. Whether Raymond survives the raid, and whether he becomes a recurring contact the way Boobie clearly is, are both open questions Rockstar has not addressed in any material published so far, and his page will be updated the moment either is settled.23

Unverified: whether Raymond is present during the raid, his link to the San4San gang, and the roles of Ernesto and Mendez. Rockstar has published no profile for any of them.
